Project M&E and Research Officer job in Zambia


This role reports to and supports the Project Manager in managing the Monitoring and Evaluation activities of a donor funded project in Copperbelt, Lusaka, and Southern provinces.

Overview

Camara is an international charity that operates as a social enterprise that uses technology to deliver 21st century skills, and as such improve education in disadvantaged communities around the world. Camara currently has education centres in five African countries (Ethiopia, Kenya, Lesotho, Tanzania, and Zambia). Camara Zambia has been in operation since 2009 and has become one of the leading suppliers of ICT equipment, content, and training to educational institutions in the country. We are currently delivering a project funded by Irish Aid which aims to build the capacity of Junior Secondary teachers to effectively deliver the new Computer Studies curriculum and ultimately positively affect the grade results of Junior Secondary students.

Assuming an important role in the Camara Zambia team, you will help the Project Manager and Camara Global M&E Officer to deliver the M&E framework of the project. This will include the generation, capture, use, and dissemination of data to inform an evidence-based approach and help ensure the success of the project.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Manage the M&E activities of the Irish Aid funded project, as set out by the project M&E plan.
  • Conduct data collection and analysis in schools that are part of the project.
  • Assist the Project Manager in project reporting.
  • Contribute to the refinement of data collection tools based on data collection experience.
  • Create and conduct surveys to the benefit of the project and Camara Zambia, where relevant.
  • Maintain project database and Results Framework to ensure data is available and up-to-date.
  • Organise and lead lessons learned/reflection meetings.
  • Train Camara Zambia staff in data collection and M&E methodologies where necessary.
  • Conduct research on issues/topics relevant to the monitoring and operation of the project, including but not limited to: research on new products, organisational strategy, and market research.
  • Assist in researching potential key contacts and fundraising opportunities for Camara Zambia, both nationally and internationally (e.g. donors, foundations, NGOs, parastatals, high net worth individuals).

Qualifications and Experience (E = Essential, D = Desirable)

  • Degree in relevant Social Sciences discipline or Statistics (E)
  • Experience in Monitoring & Evaluation and/or Project Cycle Management (E)
  • Excellent written and spoken English (E)
  • Excellent numeracy and literacy skills (E)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access) (E)
  • Postgraduate qualification in Monitoring and Evaluation or International Development (D)
  • Experience of using IT technologies for M&E (D)
  • Excellent problem solving and analysis skills (D)
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis software (e.g. SPSS, R) (D)
  • Ability to effectively represent Camara Zambia before a range of different audiences (D)
