PROJECT OFFICERS (2)

Purpose of the Position: To coordinate the implementation of direct support programmes to children during the withdrawal, rehabilitation, reintegration and prevention of children from child labour. The job holder will ensure the advocacy and awareness campaigns on child labour are implemented according to the work plan. He/She will report to the Project Manager and will work in close collaboration with the DCLCs, CCLCs, Schools and vocational skills training centres. There are two persons required for this position, and one Project Officer will be based in Chipata and the other in Nkeyema District.

Key Responsibilities for the Project Officer:

The key responsibilities of the Project Officer will include, but are not limited to:

  • Work closely with DCLC and CCLC in the identification, withdrawal, rehabilitation and reintegration process of children into formal and informal education.
  • Establish recreation facilities in target communities and schools to support the rehabilitation of children withdrawn from child labour.
  • Ensure the Complementary Basic Education centres are established and functioning to support children withdrawn from child labour and including those prevented.
  • Roll-out child labour awareness and advocacy campaigns in all the target communities and schools.
  • Ensure the SCREAM model is implemented in all the target communities and schools.
  • Work together with the M&E Officer in monitoring the progression and performance of children rehabilitated and reintegrated in formal and informal education.
  • Facilitate the implementation of life skills – behavioural change interventions for youths and adolescents.
  • Ensure older children withdrawn and reintegrated in vocational skills are linked for apprenticeship and supported with income-generating enterprises.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications and Experience for the Position of Project Officer

  • A Diploma or Degree in Social Work, Social Sciences or Education is required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant working experience in Child Labour, Child Protection and Education programmes.
  • Sound knowledge on Zambia’s child labour situation and education system.
  • Strong change management, results-oriented, and decision-making skills.
  • Flexibility and ability to handle multiple tasks and work collaboratively with partners.
  • Must have excellent communication and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to work under minimum supervision to meet short-term deadlines.
  • Commitment and drive to achieve challenging goals and problem-solving.
  • Excellent skills in oral and written communications.
  • Ability to work under tight timelines, including following deadlines, and attention to detail.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, analytical, networking and engagement skills.
  • Ability to work in a cross-cultural environment and functional teams.
  • Computer skills inclusive of Word a PowerPoint and Excel.
