With Country Programs in South Sudan, Uganda, Zambia, Somalia, and Kenya, AAH-I has over 20 years ‘experience working with communities in conflict and post –conflict situations.

Action Africa Help Zambia (AAHZ) has partnered with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the World Food Programme (WFP) to support refugees and former refugees in Zambia.

Location: Mantapala, Nchelenge

2.1 Job Purpose

To spearhead the implementation of all the protection and nutrition activities under the WFP Programme among the refugees in Mantapala Refugee Settlement.

2.2 Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities will include, but not necessarily be limited, to the following:

2.2.1 Programme Development and Implementation

  • In collaboration with the Humanitarian Team Leader and other Project Manager, contributes to the development and design of AAH protection and nutrition programme activities
  • Conducting vulnerability assessments, so as to Identify social, legal, psychosocial, socio-economic, and administrative needs of Persons of Concern (PoC) and/or support related exercises
  • Supervising and support the protection team in the implementation of agreed protection activities through provision of day-to-day support and operational guidance
  • Ensuring that the agreed protection activities are delivered on time and to agreed standards
  • Ensuring the preparation of required project work plans, in coordination with Investment/M&E Officer
  • With the protection team, identifying, advocating for and supporting opportunities to mainstream protection considerations into AAHZ or other programmes
  • Regularly monitoring the progress of both protection and nutrition activities against project plans and timelines
  • Analyzing nutrition situation and prevailing trends
  • Sensitizing vulnerable communities on malnutrition and ways of improving household food security and nutrition supporting sustainable activities such as agriculture to support better nutrition
  • Conducting demonstrations in food processing, and training on preservation of locally available foods
  • Ensuring that there is accountability and proper record keeping of programme activities in accordance with donor requirements

2.2.2 Coordination and Representation

  • Acting as a focal point for contact between AAHZ humanitarian team and other programme implementing partners, on protection and nutrition matters
  • Ensuring service mapping and effective referral pathways are kept up to date
  • Referring protection cases to relevant partners; including updating relevant databases on referrals and feedback
  • Representing the organization on-site level meetings with regard to protection and nutrition matters when requested
  • Regularly monitoring the progress of protection and nutrition activities against project plans and timelines
    • Ensuring reports are delivered on time and to agreed standards

2.3 Minimum Requirements

  • Diploma in Community Development, Social Work, Human Rights, Food and Nutrition, Gender, or any other relevant qualifications
  • At least 3 years’ experience of working with an NGO, or related environment
  • Knowledge about WFP standards, preferred
  • Experience of community-based or community mobilization work in a humanitarian context is an asset

2.4 Skills and Attributes Needed

  • Effective leadership, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Good knowledge of budgeting and resource allocation procedures
  • Ability to work in a multinational and multicultural environment
  • Ability to cope with high workload and stress and identify priority activities and assignments, and adjust priorities as required
  • Strong initiative and self-motivated, with a strong commitment to humanitarian principle and high sense of ethics Excellent communication skills, as well as patience and politeness, are needed
  • Multitasking and organizational skills are a must, and a good sense of humor
  • Ability to find ways of solving or pre-empting problems
  • Proactivity, with a sound commitment to teamwork and with a spirit of genuine collaboration
