Recreation Assistant Job: Barrick Zambia


 

Lumwana Mining Company Limited (LMC), a copper mining company owned by Barrick Gold Corporation is situated in the North Western region of Zambia, some 300 km west of the Zambian Copperbelt and 95 km south west of the provincial capital of Solwezi. The mine is a multi-pit, multi staged operation mining approximately 100MT of ore and waste per annum and producing copper concentrates containing an average of 120,000 tonnes of copper metal per year over a twenty (20) year mine life, making Lumwana the largest single open cut copper mine in Africa. The Company is now looking for an experienced and qualified individual to be considered for the position of Recreation Assistant.

Reporting to: Sports Development Officer

Role Summary

Reporting to the Sports Development Officer, you will be responsible for assisting in the implementation of all sports programmes, compiling of data base for all recreation and community teams members, monitor and control all operating procedures for all recreational facilities on site in the absence of the Sports Development Officer. Your duties will include but are not limited to the following:

Responsibilities

· Assist in the implementation of all sports and recreation programmes.

· Compile a data base for all members and put in place monitoring systems.

· Conduct regular inspections on all recreation facilities and report any damages to LPDC maintenance desk.

· Compile monthly reports on all the happenings and submit to the Sports Development Officer.

· Actively participate in all LPDC sports programmes and other entertainment programmes.

· Carry out all administrative functions assigned by the Sports Development Officer and any other supervisor.

· Build capacity and effectively network with all the youths in the township.

· Ensure that all facilities are kept to the Barrick health and safety standards.

· Assist in convening monthly sports group meetings.

· Work with minimum supervision.

· Assist in raising public awareness of health and fitness issues through participation in sport among youths and women.

· Work outside normal working hours during LPDC national commemorations such as Independence celebrations, National VCT, World Aids Day, Youth Day etc.

· Formulate maintenance work plan and schedule of all recreation facilities.

· Conduct regular inspections of all recreation facilities and report any damages to LPDC maintenance desk.

Experience & Qualifications

· Grade 12 School Certificate

· Any other qualification in Sports and recreation with at least 2 years’ work experience in a similar position

· Knowledge in cleaning the swimming pool and how to administer and store chemicals.

· Knowledge of basic swimming and lifesaving.

· Familiar with most recreation equipment and how to operate them.

· Must be able to induct new members on how to operate recreation equipment.

· Sound working knowledge with minimum supervision.

· Understanding of sports programmes.

· Communication and interpersonal skills with wide range of people especially the youths.

· Must be able to read and write effectively.
