SALES, MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER


POSITION: Sales, Marketing & Communications Manager

CONTRACT: Full Time or Part Time

LOCATION: Mfuwe, Zambia with some domestic and international travel

REPORTING TO: Managing Director

BioCarbon Partners (BCP) is a social enterprise which develops and manages long term forest carbon projects in Zambia. BCP monetizes the forests’ values through Verified Emission Reductions (VERs). Ancillary products/services include tourism development, forest and agricultural supply chain development. BCP’s hallmarks are focus on dryland forest REDD+ projects in Africa.  BCP has certified Zambia’s first pilot REDD+ demonstration project known as the ‘Lower Zambezi REDD+ Project’ to CCBA triple gold standards (validation) and VCS verification; the first project in Africa with these certifications.

In addition, BCP has partnered with USAID/Zambia in the implementation of an innovative approach to conserve and develop a jurisdictional level 700,000 hectares (ha) program in the Luangwa Ecosystem, and to sustain long-term community-based REDD+ benefits through the Community Forests Program (CFP).

BCP counts the BioCarbon Group (Macquarie Bank, World Bank IFC, and Global Forest Partners) as a strategic partner in the Lower Zambezi REDD+ Project.  BCP has begun selling VERs from Zambia to international clients and additionally, CFP is facilitating the development of new REDD+ credit streams and other commercial ventures which would contribute to conservation of selected areas and livelihoods of local communities, such as tourism, and processed forest and agricultural products.

BCP seeks an energetic, creative, self-motivated and highly skilled individual for a Sales, Marketing & Communication Manager position. This position will be based in the Luangwa Valley (or other location by agreement) and the candidate will be responsible for both local and international sales as well as complete range of marketing/media communications.

Responsibilities:

Sales & Marketing

  • Develop & implement focused international sales activities for VERs.
  • Sell existing VER vintages, and pre-sell CFP offsets.
  • Create new corporate markets for emissions offsets in Africa and internationally, in coordination with sales and marketing partners.
  • Attend selected industry events (internationally) to promote BCP and sell VERs.
  • Coordinate BCP sales activities with other brokers, advisors, and partners.
  • Develop and maintain corporate relationships in support of VER sales and CSR fundraising for conservation and development.
  • Design innovative VERs sales strategies and develop partnerships with the express goal of VER sales and CFP pre-sales.

Communications

  • Mobilize content, conduct own writing, editing, design oversight and publishing of content (e.g. website oversight, brochures, newsletters, blogs, videos)
  • Oversight & design of marketing, promotional and communications materials through print and digital media and other means (e.g. stickers, posters, branded clothing, promotional materials).
  • Develop and implement social media communications system though Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn etc. for program promotion.
  • Manage relations with service providers such as photographers, website designers, brokers and vendors.
  • Build a consistent and visible brand identity through all sales, marketing, communications and promotional activities in support of VER sales efforts.
  • Work with vendors and community engagement team members to develop community-based messaging in support of CFP objectives.

Basic Qualifications

  • Able to passionately promote the conservation and development needs of the Lower Zambezi and Luangwa ecosystems, and promote Zambia with passion and conviction.
  • Willingness to be field-based, or spend considerable time in remote forest areas.
  • 2 years Sales & Marketing experience preferably in tourism, retail, conservation or the travel sectors.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in sales/marketing, mass communications, public relations from an accredited university.
  • Experience in compiling a range of marketing and communications media applicable used to inform a wide range of audiences including for potential buyers, investors, communities, the general public, and program partners.
  • Exceptional writing and communications skills.
  • Exceptional inter-personal skills.
  • Familiarity with natural resources and conservation issues.
  • Capacity building skills to build communications capacity within the BCP team.
  • Experience developing and promoting community-based messaging will be an advantage.
