Based in Zambia, Live Well recruits, trains and supports a network of community health entrepreneurs (CHEs) to promote healthcare and sell health-impact products into underserved communities in rural and peri-urban areas. As a social business, we focus on health impact and cost-recovery. Our vision is healthier communities.

To date, we have sold over 100,000 health products through 430 trained community health entrepreneurs. We are growing our business to have positive social impact in the communities where we work and have plans to scale nationally in Zambia.

Live Well is seeking to recruit qualified and experienced professional for the following positions:

Position Title:  SALES AND MARKETING MANAGER, Live Well

Location: Lusaka, Zambia

Job Summary

Sales and marketing is core to Live Well’s success since our business requires generating demand for high impact products and services in rural and underserved urban areas. The Sales and Marketing Manager will be responsible for the development and performance of all sales and marketing activities. He/she will motivate and manage the sales team in both regions (Lusaka and Eastern Province) and provide leadership towards hitting sales targets leading to the achievement of maximum profitability and growth in line with company vision and mission. He/she will maintain and develop a database to manage CHEs and other customers. He/she will manage and direct the sales team and establish plans and strategies to expand the customer base. He/she will contribute to the development of training and mentorship programs for CHEs and sales staff.

The position is to be based in Lusaka and will require travel within Zambia.

SPECIFIC DELIVERABLES

  • Develop and deploy a sales and marketing strategy that ensures attainment of the company sales goals and profitability.
  • Plan and carry out marketing activities to agreed budgets, sales volumes, values and timescales.
  • Initiate and coordinate the development of action plans to penetrate new markets.
  • Recruit, manage and train the sales force and agents (CHEs).
  • Supervise, motivate and monitor sales force through periodic reviews and performance appraisals.
  • Maintain accurate records of all pricings, sales, and activity reports and detailed knowledge of the company’s products or services.
  • Track the growth and the progress of the sales force with assigned sales targets and ensure communication with sales team and CHEs is timely and consistent.
  • Maintain and update various information on product and customer feedback.
  • Own national sales forecast and volume projections for new and existing products.
  • Own targets and communicate goals, objectives and key results for sales team.
  • Put in place strong systems to reward and recognize sales staff and CHEs.
  • Collaborate with the community mobilisation and operations team to maintain sales volumes, set prices, and adapt to market conditions.
  • Carry out market research, competitor and customer surveys and provide timely, accurate, competitive pricing while striving to maintain maximum profit margin.
  • Oversee implementation of a digital mobile point-of-sale solution and explore other digital marketing tools such as SMS communication and/or app-based delivery solutions.
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures and business ethics and ensure that they are communicated and implemented within the team.

Essential experience, capabilities and qualifications

  • The ideal candidate will have 5 -7 years of relevant work experience, including a minimum of 3 years’ experience in Zambia;
  • Private sector experience in sales and/or marketing;
  • Ability to build and manage a large salesforce;
  • Ability to meet multiple deadlines and manage multiple priorities;
  • Experience working in a dynamic, fast-paced, start-up environment;
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and change;
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal and communication (written & verbal) skills;
  • Analytical approach to problem-solving and opportunity analysis;
  • Excellent negotiation skills;
  • Proactive and entrepreneurial;
  • Self-motivating and self-directed;
  • Track record of achieving exceptional performance;
  • University degree;
  • Excellent presentation skills with experience in use of Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Word; experienced in presenting to large and/or senior-level audiences;
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel including pivot tables, charts, and formulas;
  • Passion for enacting social change.

Desired experience, capabilities and qualifications

  • Sales and marketing experience in a pharmaceutical or FMCG company;
  • Proficiency in Nyanja, Bemba or another local language;
  • Zambian national;
  • MBA or MA degree.
