BACKGROUND:

The Sani Foundation is a Zambian organization that aims to facilitate the full inclusion of persons with intellectual disabilities in Zambia into all aspects of society. The Sani Foundation is currently providing education, training and employment services to young adults with intellectual disabilities as well as undertaking targeted sensitization and advocacy to promote, protect and ensure the full and equal enjoyment of their human rights and fundamental freedoms The Sani Foundation operates within Lusaka, Zambia and is currently working with male and female persons with intellectual disabilities between the ages of 14 and 35.

OVERALL JOB DESCRIPTION

The role of the Work Based Learning Trainer is to carry out the professional duties of a trainer as circumstances may require and in accordance with the organisation’s policies. The Work Based Learning Trainer’s role is to be an effective professional who demonstrates thorough curriculum knowledge, can train and effectively assess trainees with intellectual disabilities and takes responsibility for his/her professional development .

Job Purpose: Working within a training centre environment, the Work-Based Learning Trainer will be required to deliver high quality training to trainees. The primary role of the Work Based Learning Trainer is to train and support learners undertaking a work-based learning program. The Trainer may also be required to deliver training outside the training centre.

Hours of work

The hours of work are 40 hours per week from Monday to Friday. There will be some Saturday commitments on occasion, and this forms part of normal work.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Training

  • To train, review, monitor and assess learners in crafting
  • Plan and design practical and skills-based Learning programmes and sessions
  • Assess the outcome of learning in different stations
  • Maintain all lessons and related documentation
  • Support the development of this area of curriculum provision
  • Act as a personal mentor to groups of trainees assigned
  • May be asked to train on other stations/undertake other activities as required
  • Assess all of the job and workplace performance criteria and assist in the trainees’ portfolio building
  • Monitor, evaluate and improve the quality and effectiveness of own practice
  • To ensure the crafting station is clean at all times
  • To guide trainees during crafting at all times
  • And any other duties assigned

Essential Skills, Qualities

  • Minimum qualification in crafting, food and nutrition or equivalent experience.
  • Experience of working with people with intellectual disabilities is preferred but not mandatory
  • Experience of assessing learners.
  • Willing to learn on how to instruct and lead a team of young persons with Intellectual Disabilities
  • To ensure rights way of communication is used for the various trainees
  • Positive work attitude
  • Initiative and ensure work with minimum supervision
  • Enjoy the challenges and rewards of working in a fast-paced work environment
  • Has the passion and flexibility to ‘get the job done’.
  • Good organisational, time management and communication skills.
  • Good IT skills and knowledge
  • Attention to and eye for detail in work
