Risk & Compliance Officer

Job Summary

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and to the Audit. Actuarial and Risk Committee of the Board the Risk & Compliance Officer will lead the development and implementation of the Company’s Risk Management and Compliance Program. The job holder will also lead ongoing development, implementation, and administration of company-wide training in risk management and compliance (including Fraud Prevention, Anti-Money Laundering and Countering of Financing of Terrorism).

Duties/Responsibilities

• Assesses the business for compliance to the company’s Risk Appetite Framework with regards strategic, operational, currency, capital and solvency, liquidity, credit, and market & concentration risks.
• Performs risk assessment, testing, monitoring and manages reporting processes within the broader context of the company’s regulatory requirements, policies, processes, regulations and rules.
• Reviews system of internal policies, procedures and controls and makes recommendations for their improvement. Analyses and formulates management information and KPIs on all internal compliance program activities.
• Maintains awareness of regulatory and legislative guidelines, principles and practices, including governance around bribery and corruption, monitoring and enforcement as relevant to company’s operation.
• Develops comprehensive Fraud Prevention, Anti-Money Laundering and Countering of Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) Program for the company and ensuring its implementation.
• Leads the development and implementation of a comprehensive customer and supplier due diligence and on-boarding framework.
• Receives and vets suspicious transaction reports from staff and files suspicious transaction reports with the Financial Intelligence Center (FIC) and other relevant regulators. Serves both as a liaison officer with the FIC as well as a point-of-contact for all employees on issues relating to money laundering and terrorist financing.
• Co-ordinates the training of staff in AML/CFT awareness, detection methods and reporting requirements.
• Ensures that the company’s AML/CFT is monitored and evaluated through independent audit.

Minimum qualifications and experience

• An appropriate business, risk management, forensic, legal, or auditing qualification/degree such as BAcc, ACCA. CIMA. IRM, IIA, CIA, or LLB.
• At least 3 years’ experience in a similar role in a highly regulated business, with sound understanding of Risk Management, including risk assessment, process mapping, quality assurance, testing and monitoring.
• A sound understanding of Compliance programs and regulations, including Fraud Prevention, Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Bribery, Countering of Financing of Terrorism. Conflicts of Interests, and Sanctions.
• Has not been convicted of any offense and/or financial crime under the Financial Intelligence Centre Act or any other law.
• Strong personal integrity and values-driven work ethic.
• Self-starter and strong team player with evidence of change management skills. Strong leadership and communication skills marked by ability to motivate team members at all levels.
