Key Responsibilities:

• Ensure that each section works to a weekly-plan, provide coaching and mentoring to each supervisor as required. Review Weekly plans to ensure that they are realistic and achievable. Ensure that forward planning is catered for in a forward planning schedule. Attend all meetings with internal and external service providers as appropriate to ensure planning and scheduling alignment. Assist with the Development of the Section Capital and Operating budgets.
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement in the Central Engineering Workshops activities by encouraging and providing input on processes and support to all subordinates. These wins are to be communicated across the section and key players openly recognized.
• Provide leadership and mentoring for all area team members, including ongoing training and development, performance management, conflict management and crisis management. Ensuring harmonious relationships are maintained throughout the disciplines.
• To be actively involved in the development and execution of weekly plans for the in-house and external support activities of the Central Workshop sections by assigning priorities to other section supervisors, planners and the maintenance crews carrying out field work to meet the needs of the operation.
• Actively lead in all section, planning meetings, toolbox meetings, safety meetings and any other activities as necessary to promote excellence in communications. Liaise with other cross functional sections in order to gain agreement on priorities to enable completion of set tasks in a timely and safe manner.
• Develop a technical knowledge for the existing plant / equipment and have input with development projects. Managing visiting consultants. Fault finding and failure analysis.

Knowledge, Training and Experience Required:

• A minimum of an appropriate skill certification and experience with Belt splicing & associated equipment, ceramic tiling & lagging, rubber lagging & poly urethane coatings.
• Minimum of 8-10 years’ experience in a maintenance role.
• At least 5 years in a senior supervisory role.
• Experience in high output/large conveyor installations both steel-cord & fabric, rubber lined tanks, agitators & underflow trays.

Practical/ Specialist Skills:

• Knowledge of MS Office and Pronto or other enterprise systems.
• Hands on mechanical trade skills and experience with heavy industrial conveyor belt, rubber and ceramic repair exposure are essential, while basic dogging & rigging highly regarded
• Previous experience with a managing multi disciples trades would be well regarded.
• Demonstrable experience with maintenance management systems will be an advantage

Health, Safety and Environment

Contribute to the management of health and safety risks related to the Central Workshops by:

• Assisting in the implementing of safety systems and procedures required by the Zambian Mines regulations.
• Contributing to the identification of the significant health and safety risks and impacts related to the maintenance workshops including those related to identified applicable legislation.
• Development and implementation of plans/controls to mitigate significant health and safety risks.
• Ensuring that the Central Workshops personnel have the necessary competencies, awareness and training to effectively manage the health and safety risks in their areas.
• Ensuring that incidents related to health, safety or the environment are reported and assist in investigations to identify any additional controls required.

Safety Performance

Ensure that the continuous improvement principles are applied to the Health and Safety programs in your section:

• Attend and/or conduct regular safety meetings.
• Ensure the Section builds and uses SOPs relevant to their work.
• Actively promote continuous improvement in safety performance throughout the workforce.
• Conduct informal safety audits of tasks being undertaken in your area on a regular basis.
