Senior Economist Job: Development Bank of Zambia


The Development Bank of Zambia (DBZ) is a development finance institution that influences the environment for access to finance for development by offering innovative, tailor made financing solutions, advisory services and technical support to viable local enterprises.

The Bank is looking for suitably qualified persons to apply for the following position:

SENIOR ECONOMIST (1)

JOB SUMMARY

To evaluate and analyze the banks projects, post bank assistance in order to determine the impact of the
projects on the country’s economic growth and employment creation. The site of the projects is to
be conducted, to evaluate whether project implementation was carried out as per the loan agreement and implementation schedule agreed upon with the Bank. Collect and compile data for economic research purposes required to guide the Bank in which sectors of the economy to target in order to achieve projected economic growth as per the Government National Development Plan.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Carry out project site visits as part of the post-evaluation process to assess the impact of the
    assistance received from the bank;
  • Data mine, collect, compile and prepare an aggregated project performance report highlighting
    historical and prevailing performance trends by sector, industry and firm size, interalia;
  • Collection and compilation of monthly DBZ statistics such as employment numbers by gender, funding by sector, project distribution by region, average lending rates, exchange rates, inter alia
    information on critical macroeconomic indicators such as inflation rate, BOZ policy rate, average commercial bank lending rates and GDP, inter alia;
  • Specific data collection on all projects that have benefited from the Banks assistance to assist with
    research areas;
  • Conduct bank pertinent economic research and market analysis and prepare working papers with
    relevant recommendations for management to digest;
  • Prepare and submit quarterly analytical reports to the Bank’s reporting Ministry on the Banks assistance to projects – including the impact to the economy and planned actions;
  • Provide Head Post Evaluation and Economic
  • Research with information on economic issues directly affect tie bank to aid decision making;
  • Provide Head Post Evaluation and Economic Research with strategic advice on sectors with the greatest potential for growth of the Banks investments;
  • Identify business/economic opportunities within the market for potential investment and recognize for synergies and linkages between funded projects;
  • Perform any other function as directed by the Head
  • Post Evaluation and Economic Research.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications:

  • Grade twelve certificate with 5 ‘O level including Mathematics and English
  • Must possess an Economics Degree or Business Administration Degree, a Masters Degree in
    equivalent fields will be an added advantage;
  • 3 (three) years’ experience in the field of economics with a correlation to financial economic analysis;
  • Must have an understanding of project appraisal and evaluation, including the financial credit
  • Exposure to economic research methodologies necessary to conduct research.
