Zambia National Commercial Bank Plc (Zanaco) is inviting applications from suitably qualified and experienced individuals for the following job aimed at contributing to the Bank’s strategic vision, in the Commercial Division under the Treasury Department at Head Office:

Responsibilities

  • To conduct research and analysis on global, local and sector economic trends and developments in order to provide content in the form of reports, articles and presentations for the use of clients and individuals within the business
  • Under the supervision of the Treasurer, the following are among the Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for researching and evaluating possible opportunities and risks for the Bank and its clients
  • Provide assistance to the Head of Research on ad hoc projects, quantitative analysis and other assigned research tasks
  • Monitoring market trends, as well as political, economic and regulatory developments in order to be able to identify potential external influences that could affect the Bank or clients’ business
  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis and compile into insightful and user-friendly reports
  • Participate in discourse and provide innovative suggestions on how the business will improve its content offering and general appeal to current and prospective clients
  • Write in-depth, current economic or market sector related articles for internal and external distribution
  • Build financial and analytical models to analyze and forecast business, industry and economic trends for use in making business decisions
  • Create and maintain databases/spreadsheets of industry and sector-specific data; catalogue research findings.
    Responsible for writing detailed written reports of research findings and recommendations with respect to assigned sectors or topic of study
  • Compile findings from own or secondary research and write summary reports
  • Create visual presentations of data or findings (e.g. graphs, diagrams or PowerPoint presentations)
  • Present research findings and analysis to Head of Research and other assigned Business Units or clients
  • External: Professional Bodies, Regulatory Bodies, Data provider institutions, Clients
  • Internal: All Divisions.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 Credit or above mandatory in Mathematics and English and any other three subjects
  • Degree in a relevant field or professional qualification from a recognized university
  • Attainment of the CFA charter is an added advantage
  • Two (2) years as research economist/analyst preferably in the financial services industry
  • Demonstrated experience in preparing and presenting research papers
  • An expert understanding of quantitative and qualitative research methods, especially econometrics and operations research
  • Demonstrated capability of analyzing business and financial information and ability to translate these into a business recommendation
  • An understanding of current affairs and an appreciation of their impact on the market and business
  • Familiarity with electronic data sources such as Bloomberg and Reuters as well as Access to private data through academic or professional affiliations is an added advantage
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and multi-task in a fast paced environment
  • Strong numerical ability and quantitative skills
  • Familiarity with electronic data sources such as Bloomberg and Reuters as well as Access to private data through academic or professional affiliations is an added advantage
