St Ignatius College is a private non-profit Catholic Jesuit School located in Ibex Hill Lusaka and wholly owned by the Society of Jesus (Jesuits). Established in 1979 by the Leopards Hill Trust, the college is one of the oldest Private Secondary Schools in Zambia. In 2012, the Society of Jesus took over the running of the college and continue today, a tradition rooted in the Jesuit approach to education. One of the great strengths of St Ignatius College is the commitment on not only academic excellence, but also on the curriculum leadership and community service. The aim of Jesuit Education is to provide academic excellence and quality education of the whole person in the Jesuit tradition. The College is Seeking to recruit a dynamic, motivated, enthusiastic and qualified individual in the role of College Vice Principal.
Overall Job Purpose.
The Academic Vice Principal will be required to support the College Principal in ensuring that the Mission, Vision, Philosophy and Core values of St Ignatius College are upheld, as well as promoted and supported by Students and College Staff.
Main activities/responsibilities:
- To be responsible for leading the admission process of new students
- To conduct progress evaluation of internal and external examination.
- To plan feasible ways of improving the academic performance of the College
- To closely monitor the performance of all Heads of Departments
- To carry out all disciplinary cases of students and advise management on required course of action
- To supervise the student governance structures of the College
- To ensure that all periods planned for on school timetables are taught
- To plan and execute details of school functions
- To represent the principal in various duties whenever necessary
- To institute and supervise all Curricular activities
- To oversee, promote and safeguard Parents and Teachers’ relations
- To manage all Academic Operations of the College in liaison with the Principal
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Full Grade Twelve School Certificate with 5 O levels.
- Degree in Education from a Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQUA) recognised University.
- Teaching Council of Zambia (TCZ) Certification a must.
- Five years’ teaching experience in recognised Secondary Schools and significant others.
- Possess Senior leadership and management experience
- Experience of conducting staff induction, mentoring and performance management
- Knowledge of the Law of Zambian Education
- Managerial skills will be an added advantage.
- Must have three traceable referees.
- Must be an excellent classroom practitioner
- Ability to work with the Principal in engaging with the internal and external school community to secure equity and entitlement.
- Capacity to work with the Principal in collaborating with other schools and organisations in order to share expertise and bring positive benefits to the College.
- Should be able to work with the Principal collaboratively at both strategic and operational levels with parents and carers across multiple agencies for the well-being of all.
THE PERSON must:
- Demonstrate a concern for the Pastoral and Spiritual welfare of all in the College
- Have commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
- Be committed to active parental involvement in College Programmes
