POSITION TITLE: SUPERVISOR FLIGHT OPERATIONS AND CREW SCHEDULING

II. JOB SUMMARY:

Under the direct supervision of the Manager Operations, The Supervisor Flight Operations and Crew Scheduling will be responsible for providing services to the Airline through the development of flight operations and crew scheduling related policies and procedures designed to provide safe and economic operation of aircraft.

III. KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Determines staffing requirements to obtain maximum utilization of flight operations personnel through the system;
  • Participates in the evaluation of flight equipment proposed for use by the airline;
  • Leads the training standard of cockpit crew;
  • Manages the overall activities of flying operations;
  • Gives input on all operational crew requirements of scheduled and non-scheduled
  • Leads the activities of operational planning, flight dispatching flight movement control and crew scheduling;
  • Establish procedures and control methods necessary for the protection and security of Zambia Airlines property;
  • Establishes Safety and quality as core value in all Zambia Airlines operations and give due attention and immediate action to conditions that may affect safety and quality;
  • Implements procedures which will safeguard Zambia Airlines customers and employees’ safety and property;
  • Protect Zambia Airlines property, asset and equipment and ensure its efficient utilization for the purpose intended;
  • Ensure on-going compliance with conditions and restrictions of the Air Operator Certificate (AOC)
  • Manages policies governing flight dispatch (Operational Planning) communication and flight crew activities and plans for the efficient utilization of personnel in these functions.
  • Evaluates and recommends new aircraft and flight equipment for use on present or proposed aircraft, to ensure that the airline keeps pace with industry development and avoids economic or safety penalties.
  • Manages daily operations of the department and quality requirements are met and maintained in accordance with the regulatory authorities’ such as IATA, ICAO, ICAD etc. regulation and the good standard practices dictated by aviation industry and internal standards of Zambia airlines.
  • Reviews and approves all communications procedures covering ground and flying communications, maintenance and operation of all ground radio stations and navigation beacons.
  • Liaison with the Civil Aviation Administration of Airports, licensing, communications, air traffic control, ICAD International meetings, meteorology etc.
  • Reviews and approves all requests regarding facility, equipment and condition of field for a safe operation.
  • Participates in accident investigation whenever flight equipment is involved in an accident causing damage to equipment or injury to passengers or crew.
  • Ensures that Air Operator Certificate (AOC) issued by Zambia Civil Aviation Authority is valid and current.
  • Ascertains the AOC and all its associated documents shall define the scope of the current operations Reviews and approves all flying procedures, manuals, power charter and emergency procedures.
  • Coordinates charter and non-routine flights with marketing division and other related departments.
  • Plans and implements short- and long-term cockpit and cabin crew requirement to meet Zambia Airlines present and future level of operation.
  • Assure that crew turn pattern and rotation is prepared and available seasonally per Zambia’s Seasonal schedule requirement for all flight crew on time
  • Supervising and monitoring of the maintenance of cabin crew qualification, crew travel document validation and record keeping regularly
  • Plans and organizes all crew scheduling functions
  • Serves as chairperson of “flight delay meeting” and reports monthly compiled on time performance to management committee meeting.
  • Approves crew hotel accommodation contracts on behalf of Zambia Airlines.
  • Manages that the risk register (database) is developed in respective operations which includes prioritized risks, appropriate risk response, defined risk mitigation processes and measures that monitor effectiveness
  • Approves payments, requests for expenditures, expense reports per limits of authority.
  • Perform all other related duties that may be assigned from time to time by the Supervisor

IV. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree in any relevant field of studies
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in airlines Flight Operations / Crew Scheduling or related areas with at least 2 years’ management experience as Supervisor or equivalent level.
