Preamble

UNICEF intends to deliver nutritional messages through the Care Group model that was used by CRS in its previous programs as the model has been identified as the main community-based platform for which the convergence of multisector nutrition interventions is possible. The model aims at promoting the adoption of positive health and nutrition practices and consumption of nutrient dense, protein rich foods, with a focus on preventing malnutrition at household level. UNICEF therefore intends to incorporate this model in the implementation of SUN II /MCDP2 and so has contracted CRS to assist in taking up the role of providing technical and financial support to Government, through districts workplans.

CRS is looking for applicants to fill in the position of Technical Advisor for the Care Group Model under the SSM UNICEF supported project to be based in Lusaka.

Job Summary:

Working with an external consultant, the Technical Advisor will provide technical leadership in developing and updating the Care Group model with SUN II/MCDP2 focusing on providing technical support in the establishment of SUN II/MCDP2 Care Groups in 17 districts where UNICEF is operating.

The Advisor is expected to oversee the delivery of required Care Group trainings adapted to the SUN II/MCDP2 program to designated GRZ counterparts in the 17 districts through capacity development of a pool of trained cadres in the Care Group Model. The Advisor will provide technical leadership to Master Trainers who will be conducting Training of Trainers to Field Staff that will be responsible for implementation of the Care Group Mode.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide input in the development of a technical design for a training curriculum for the Care Group model
  • Support updating the Care Group model with SUN II/MCDP2 focus
  • Provide technical oversight to Training of Trainers during the development a pool of Trainers in the Care Group Model
  • Provide technical support to the establishment of SUN II/MCDP2 Care Groups in 17 districts
  • Support capacity building/ strengthening initiatives to the other NGOs and partner staff under the UNICEF project through conducting trainings, workshops and coaching
  • Conduct refresher workshops for the Master Trainers in the Care Group Model

Typical Background, Experience & Requirements:

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Development Management/ Studies, Master’s Degree preferable.
  • Minimum of five years of relevant work experience in capacity development/ trainings with progressive responsibilities, ideally with an international NGO, with minimum of two to three years of working for programming interventions in multiple projects.
  • Having a nutrition background will be an added advantage
  • Knowledge of technical principles and concepts in focusing on trainings of Training of Trainers
  • Experience in writing content for trainings.
  • Knowledge of capacity strengthening best practices focusing on staff in a given institution.
  • Experience and skills in networking and relations with donors, peer organizations, and faith-based and civil society partners. Understanding of partnership principles.
  • Proficient in MS Office packages (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Web Conferencing Applications, information and budget management systems, knowledge-sharing networks.

  • Strong presentation, facilitation, training, mentoring, and coaching skills
  • Good strategic, analytical, problem-solving and systems thinking skills with capacity to see the big picture and ability to make sound judgment
  • Good technical writing and presentation skills
  • Proactive, resourceful and results-oriented
