Technical Specialists Needed in Zambia


Chemonics seeks technical specialists for an anticipated USAID integrated nutrition, agriculture, and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) project in Zambia. Jointly managed by the Economic Development, Health, and Education Offices, the project will assist the Zambian government to reduce stunting in the eastern and central provinces. It aims to increase access to water and sanitation, improve the productivity and capacity of high-value, nutrient-rich value chains, and increase household knowledge and support for new eating and child feeding habits through multilevel and multisector engagement.

Job Title: Technical Specialists

Agriculture technical specialists with experience in the following areas:

  • Productivity and commercialization of grain and legume crops or small livestock/poultry, with a
    focus on smallholder farmers
  • Post-harvest handling, storage, and processing
  • Input and output market linkages
  • Climate-smart agriculture/conservation agriculture
  • Agriculture finance
  • Private sector investment

Nutrition technical specialists with experience in the following areas:

  • Essential nutrition actions
  • Household and community-level stunting prevention and treatment
  • Nutrition-focused program management
  • Multisectoral programming expertise with a focus on reducing stunting

WASH technical specialists with experience in the following areas:

  • Essential hygiene actions
  • Access to sustainable water supply and sanitation
  • Safe play spaces
  • Community-led total sanitation and/or school-led total sanitation

Qualifications for technical specialists:

  • Advanced degree required in agriculture, international development, public health, nutrition, or a related field
  • Minimum seven years of experience designing, implementing, and managing agriculture/nutrition/WASH programs in Zambia
  • Experience with USAID or other donor-funded projects, ideally large multisectoral projects
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with the private sector, government entities, community leaders, and international donors
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
  • Fluency in English required
