STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Currently enrolled and have attended University courses in the last 12 months inclusive of having completed at least two years of undergraduate studies or have recently graduated in the last 6 months in Public Policy, International Development and Economics, Agricultural Economics or other relevant topics.
- To be a student in Master (1st or 2nd year) or to have graduated less than 6 months in Public Policy, International Development and Economics, Agricultural Economics or other relevant topics.
- Fluent in English
ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT
The World Food Programme is the world’s largest humanitarian agency, fighting hunger worldwide. We are currently seeking to fill an internship position under the WFP Zambia Country Office of Farmer to Market Alliance Unit. The position will be based at our Head Office in Lusaka, Zambia. The Internship will be for an initial period of 4 months starting from 1st November 2017.
JOB PURPOSE
The selected candidate will be assisting the WFP Farmer to Market Alliance Unit with the following key duties:
- Development of smallholder Farmer focused policy memorandums for internal and external use.
- Draft proposals, concept notes and other documents as required.
- Draft quarterly bulletins for FtMA alliance partners
- Support the FtMA M&E/Data focal person with ongoing dashboard management, survey development, and field data collection activities.
- Contribute to the streamlining of current FtMA systems and tools.
- Support the FtMA team with internal admin tasks such as the team calendar, meeting minutes and facilitation, logistics and other admin requests as and when required.
- Perform other duties as required.
DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE
- Knowledge of various aspects of agricultural financial services and business modelling is a bonus.
- Knowledge and experience of M&E frameworks a plus
- Good analytical skills; resourcefulness, initiative, maturity of judgment, tact, and negotiating skills.
- Ability to perform and deliver results under time pressure.
- Excellent communication skills both orally and in writing and in multiple contexts/formats.
- Ability to frequently travel within the country.
- Strong ability to take initiative with research and analysis and produce valuable results in conditions of uncertainty
- Professional fluency in English.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
- Interns receive a monthly stipend from WFP up to the maximum amount of US$1000 per month depending on the duty station of assignment.
- WFP is not responsible for living expenses, arrangements for accommodation, necessary visas and related costs.
- Depending on the duty station of assignment, WFP will reimburse travel ticket for candidates who are nationals of developing countries and are pursuing their studies in their home country.
- WFP will recognize candidates’ educational credentials from recognized institutions that have been certified by competent international or national authorities such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) or Ministries of Education;
