JSI implements the five-year USAID DISCOVER-Health project to support the Ministry of Health (MOH) in the provision of quality health services and products. The Project’s aim is to improve the lives of Zambians by ensuring equitable access to, and use of high-quality HIV, maternal newborn and child health (MNCH), family planning and reproductive health (FP/RH) services and products at the district and community levels. The Project utilizes and sustains a health model that maximizes the relative strengths of the public and private sectors to deliver health products and services that reach all beneficiaries and consumer markets.
We are looking for the following:
Position: Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis Nurse/Provider (PrEP) x 2
Location: Kabwe and Kitwe
Purpose:
The PrEP Nurse/Provider will work with the USAID DISCOVER-Health clinical team and the Ministry of Health (MOH) staff at points of service to ensure quality care for clients in the PrEP program under the Project. The primary responsibility of the PrEP Nurse/Provider is to provide PrEP services. Additionally, the PrEP Nurse/Provider will also provide support towards ART services as needed.
The PrEP Nurse/Provider is responsible for but not limited to the following in the PrEP workspace/clinic.
Role and responsibilities:
- Coordinate or conduct pre-PrEP initiation counselling.
- Take structured sexual, drug use and medical history. Measure vital
- signs (blood pressure and body temperature), perform phlebotomy..
- Conduct point-of-care tests (HIV antibody, Hepatitis B surface antigen), screen for sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
- Provide counselling on PrEP use and adherence, family planning and contraception, Hepatitis B vaccination and STIs.
- Fill prescriptions, including labelling, and dispense medications.
- Preparation of the PrEP workspace/clinic.
- Arrange for smooth client flow.
- Coordinate Community Health Workers (CHWs)/ Counsellors/ Mentors to provide information on PrEP and counselling on adherence, HIV prevention, sexual health and contraception.
- Update PrEP registers and coordinate effective data entry by CHWs and Counsellors into PrEP electronic management system.
- Coordinate PrEP appointment book and initiating the tracking of clients who miss clinical and pharmacy appointments by working with PrEP mobilisers and CHWs.
Additional guidance:
- This position will entail technical and programmatic leadership for planning, managing, and reporting on all supply chain management activities at the facility.
- The goal of this position is to ensure the provision of quality PrEP services
- The PrEP Nurse/Provider will work closely with the ART clinician, adherence supporters (CHWs and Counsellors) and other clinical staff to ensure linkage of services between the community and the facility.
- In addition, care delivery issues and overall clinical quality assurance and improvement will be dependent on the input from the nurse
Skills, Experience and Qualifications:
- Effective communication with other medical staff, CHWs, mobilizers and clients.
- Ability to solve difficult problems
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and to organize and prioritize competing activities
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment
- Flexibility, patience, dedication and creative thinking
- Experience working with young people in general, and adolescents living with HIV, in particular
- Experience in management (Desirable)
- Experience working with Microsoft Office suite i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.
- Full grade 12 certificate
- Zambia Registered Midwife (ZRM), Zambia Registered Nurse (ZRN), Zambia Enrolled Nurse Midwife (ZEM) or Zambia Enrolled Nurse (ZEN) with at least 2 years working experience, and associated training, in the ART or PMTCT clinic
