Job Title: Physical Planning Advisor

Role overview
You’ll work with the Physical Planning and Housing Department of the Ministry of Local Government and Housing to strengthen the capacity of physical planning at national level ensuring planning is based on sound information and analysis, its proposals are realistic in financial and programming terms, and plans are implemented with the participation of local communities. You’ll advise and support the National/Provincial Planning Officers on matters relating to physical planning.
Skills, qualifications and experience required
You have a Degree in Urban and Regional Planning or equivalent. You are a Physical Planner with a minimum of 5 years professional and management experience of operating at a senior level in or with the public sector. You have sound knowledge of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and IT as applied in planning, and a proven ability in mentoring and sharing skills.
Working in government departments can be challenging due to bureaucratic systems, hence the need for flexibility and ability to work in complex environments.
You will be staying in Lusaka the capital city of Zambia and at times you may be required to share accommodation with other VSO volunteers.
