Consultancy: Community Building, Communications and Advocacy

An emerging and important issue relates to the social cohesion within the groups of youths engaged in the project. There is a great and urgent need to work more directly with the youth on social issues to form a foundation for other work to stem from. Areas that require attention are:

  • Boost team work and foster team spirit,
  • self-governance,
  • collective decision making,
  • group transparency,
  • effective group communication,
  • skills in conducting effective meetings,
  • Developing a clear communal vision,
  • skills in dealing with conflict,
  • clear and confidential channels of voicing concerns with the project team as required
  • The development of any protocols to support the above.

The team would like to embark on a capacity building program to develop skills in the above areas so that they can take these skills and knowledge to the participating youth and in turn build capacity in the field. Such a capacity building program should escort the project team over the period of 6 months to build capacity in community building skills for both the team and in the field.

Communications and Advocacy

The project has milestones to deliver:

  1. an introduction to communications and advocacy training to 210 youth in the short term (this was a year 1 activity and in order to maintain donor confidence the team would like to conduct this event soon so that it can be reported in the mid-year review to the Scottish Government).
  2. A Communications and Advocacy intensive which is more media focused and will target 70 youth who demonstrate an interest and a capacity to engage in this more tech-based activity
  3. The training of 20 key people in journalism skills so these can be the key disseminators in their regions of the good work being done by the project.

Activities/Deliverables

  • Prepare and conduct training that addresses the areas that require attention mentioned above.
  • Be available over the course of 6 months to support the project team with the community building program in the field. 3 formal meetings to be scheduled to allow for follow up support.
  • Team members equipped with suitable solutions to deal with on-going project implementation challenges.

Budget

The estimated total cost for this assignment should cover professional fees, field travels, accommodation and any other costs related to the assignment.

Qualifications and Experience

  • The lead consultant should have at least a degree preferably in Organizational Psychology/Organizational Development/Human Resource management.
  • Proven experience of organizational change management, organizational development and team building.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and advanced skills in the preparation of Team Building for medium and large-scale organizations
