We have been working in Zambia since 1962 organizing our efforts across Freshwater, Wildlife, Forests, and People.  WWF Zambia is seeking to hire a highly motivated and experienced individual for the position of Policy Expert under the Wildlife Program.

The Role

The incumbent will provide support to the Wildlife Program leader in policy engagement, advocacy and policy influencing initiatives as well as supporting  Community Based Natural Ressources  Management governance.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Engage in key wildlife-related policy discourses and developing WWF policy positions.
  • Engage with Government and other relevant stakeholders including, public and private sector actors, civil society, and community among others on topical policy issues in the wildlife / natural resources sector,
  • Lead the development of the wildlife program’s  contributions to policy developments, policy analysis, and national budget analyses
  • Provide researched Technical advice to the Wildlife Program leader on a wide array of emerging issues, contemporary global, regional and national environmental, economic, political, social and other issues relating to wildlife and natural resources management
  • Analyze information and contribute to the writing of Technical Progress Reports and other reports needed by Wildlife Program
  • Work with the WWF network global policy team in help for developing policy recommendations on WWF priorities in relevant national, regional, and international processes, and Multilateral Environmental Agreements.
  • Assess and identify policy and advocacy training needs for the wildlife team and partners civil society organizations including CRBs in focal landscapes
  • Develop and implement a related capacity building plan to fill the identified policy and advocacy gaps.
  • Provide programmatic support and technical advice to project teams and field staff as delegated by the Wildlife team leader
  • Any other responsibility as assigned by the Wildlife Program leader

Qualifications, Skills and Competencies

  • A relevant Masters qualification (MSc, MA or MBA degree) in Natural Resources, Environmental Policy, Policy or International relations, or Public Administration
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in development, policy and advocacy;
  • Strong experience in policy advocacy, training and development of training materials for civil society
  • Sensitive to meeting tight deadlines, with quality and precision
  • Previous work experience in the wildlife/ natural resources sector will be an added advantage
  • Demonstrable skills in policy analysis, advocacy and influencing
  • Excellent policy engagement, relationship management and diplomatic skills;
  • Strong planning and analytical skills;
  • Excellent organizational skills and a strong capacity to work independently;
  • Ability to work within a multidisciplinary and multicultural team;
  • Good command of English and both written and spoken
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines, and high pressure situations;
