Young Africa (YAZ) Zambia is a Non-Governmental Organisation that provides high quality Technical and Vocational Training, Entrepreneurship, and Life skills training to vulnerable youths in Zambia between the ages of 15 to 25. Young Africa Zambia aims to empower youths with skills that will enable them to acquire employment or venture into business and participate in economic development. Young Africa Zambia is implementing a COVID 19 Emergency Relief Project to address the challenges families face due to COVID 19. Young Africa seeks to employ an Emergency Relief Officer. Job Description
The Emergency Relief Officer will be responsible for implementing activities that will contribute to improved food security and nutritional wellbeing amongst young people and their households in Bauleni and surrounding areas.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Community mobilization
- Conduct vulnerability assessments for community members for the feeding program
- Create a database to capture details of beneficiaries from the soup kitchen
- Identify beneficiaries and create a database for families receiving support through food parcels
- Develop registers for the soup kitchen and reporting
- Set up the soup kitchen and ensure that food is prepared for the community members every week
- Ensure that the food packs are purchased and distributed to beneficiary facilities
- Facilitate health COVOID 19 prevention talks and implementation of safety measures
- Supervising and working with project volunteers
- Compilation of the purchased food packs and foodstuffs for the kitchen
- Reporting
Essential Skills
- Experience with community-based initiatives
- Communication, Working with People, and Drive for Results
- Ability to collaborate and interact effectively with community members
- Excellent coordination and organization skills
- Ability to meet project deadlines
- Ability to communicate in local languages and work with communities
Requirements
- Relevant qualifications with related field with 5+ years relevant work experience
- Proven work experience in community-based programs
- Ability to work under pressure and deliver on targets
- Ability to build effective working relationships and present diplomatic solutions to obstacles encountered
- Tech skills: Typing, E-mail, Word, Excel, scanning, punctuality, reliability and attention to detail
- Exceptionally organized with strong time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines
- Ability to manage competing priorities inherent in a non-profit organization.
This position is a three months’ position based in Lusaka Province.
