The Economic Strengthening Coordinator coordinates the implementation of Economic Strengthening in both the DREAMS and Community HIV prevention component of YWCA implemented USAID Z-CHPP project. She provides support to partners, project staff and shareholders in the effective implementation of economic strengthening activities. The Economic Strengthening Coordinator will report to the Project Coordinator and work closely with the DREAMS Centre Manager and M & E. The position exists to design, coordinate Economic strengthening, livelihoods, microfinance, and private-public relationship activities. The position is mainly in the DREAMS component and to an extent in the community HIV prevention component of the YWCA implemented USAID Z-CHPP. In close collaboration with the project team she will from time to time review the Z-CHPP Economic Strengthening strategy in line with emerging projects needs.
Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Plan and manage implementation of economic strengthening activities primarily in the DREAMS component of the project and, secondarily, in the Community HIV prevention component of the project
  • Promotes and Supports the project to fully operationalise the livelihoods activities (including identification and implementation of viable income generating activities), micro finance (OSAWE, WORTH & EYL methodology) within the USAID Z-CHPP project.
  • Lead the design, development and implementation of economic strengthening and vocational skills training interventions within the YWCA implemented USAID Z-CHPP project.
  • Provide technical and implementation support to the HIV prevention and especially to DREAMS team members on economic strengthening area.
  • Providing leadership and guidance to the project team on IGAs, livelihoods, Micro Finance and other economic strengthening related components to contribute to empowering beneficiaries especially adolescent girls and young women
  • Document lessons learnt and best practices especially of DREAMS and of the project.
  • Support preparing and conducting quarterly and annual review meetings with
    stakeholders to review progress.
  • Identify and apply effective measures to realize the rights of the most vulnerable target population to include people living with HIV (PLHIV), discordant couples, mobile population, adolescent girls and young women and their male sexual partners, and other high-risk population groups.
  •  Facilitate the formation, formalization and training of Micro finance to savings groups on the USAID Z-CHPP project.
  • Identify, design and implement capacity building activities that ensure that YWCA’s USAID Z-CHPP project staff and volunteers understand the importance of Micro Finance, livelihoods and other related economic strengthening interventions and their contribution to HIV prevention especially as they relate to AGYW.
  • Ensure that the project budgets on microfinance, livelihoods and other economic strengthening activities are spent according to the implementation plan
  • Draft and review of program documents pertaining to economic strengthening implementation including progress reports, annual work plans, and programmatic phase- out
  • Represent YWCA in Partner’s public events related to economic strengthening
  • Ensure timely reporting, monitoring and analysis of results against set targets, and use of
    data to adjust implementation strategies as necessary.

  • A strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in high profile, fast-paced environment
  • Ability to communicate (verbally and in writing) technical issues effectively and persuasively
  •  Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects effectively, think analytically and take initiative in solving problems
  • Able to communicate effectively
  • Ability to use MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
  • Must be a female NOT above 40 years.

JOB ATTRIBUTES

  • Knowledge and experience in implementing a range of results based economic strengthening interventions
  • Good facilitation skills especially in economic strengthening interventions
  • Training and knowledge in community HIV/AIDS prevention and working with Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW)
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative and manage a variety of activities concurrently
  • A strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in high profile, fast-paced environment

REQUIRED ACADEMIC QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Development Studies/Administration, Community Development or any related field
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in both NGO and HIV environment and implementing PEPFAR programs
