The Young Women’s Christian Association of Zambia is a Christian, Membership, Non-partisan, Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) dedicated to the Empowerment of the Community especially women, youth and children, to realize their potential as human beings and contribute to a just society, through rights-based and sustainable interventions. One of YWCA’s key interventions is providing temporal protective shelter for women and children fleeing from abusive environments. In a bid to improve the shelter environment, YWCA is seeking to engage a consultant to undertake a shelter needs assessment to identify areas in which the temporal protective shelters can be improved to make them comfortable and indeed a home away from home and conducive for recuperation. The overall objective of the consultancy is to undertake a Needs Assessment of 6 YWCA shelters located in Lusaka, Kitwe, Solwezi, Mongu, and Chipata.

2.0 OVERALL OBJECTIVES OF THE CONSULTANCY
The overall objective of the consultancy is to undertake a Needs Assessment of 6 YWCA shelters located in Lusaka, Kitwe, Solwezi, Mongu, and Chipata.
3.0 SCOPE OF THE WORK
The consultant is expected to undertake the following:
- Review the YWCA Lifeskills Curriculum and identify areas in which the curriculum can be strengthened
- Conduct a desk review of a similar curriculum and identify issues that are relevant for inclusion in the YWCA Lifeskills curriculum.
- Develop an updated YWCA Lifeskills curriculum with identified gaps addressed and relevant issues adapted from reviewed curriculums incorporated.
4.0 DELIVERABLES
- Shelter Needs Assessment Tools.
- Shelter Needs Assessment Report.
5.0 DURATION OF THE ASSIGNMENT
The consultancy should be undertaken within a period of fifteen (15) working days commencing 15th March 2020.
6.0 SUPERVISION
The overall supervisor of this assignment will be the Executive Director
7.0 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Master’s degree in social sciences, public health or any related field
- Over 10 years’ experience in conducting similar work
- Good report writing skills
- Good understanding of human rights, gender-based violence with a specific focus on violence against women and children.
- Conversant with the application of cross-cutting themes like HRBA, gender and HIV and child protection.
- Experience in conducting assessments and surveys
- Computer literacy
- Good spoken and written communication skills in English.
- Excellent research, analytical and report writing skills.
8. BID REQUIREMENTS
Consultants who meet the requirements should submit a maximum of 10 pages expression of interest, which should include the following:
i. A suitability statement, including a commitment to availability for the entire assignment.
ii. A brief statement on the proposed methodology including a detailed work plan.
iii. A detailed financial proposal, including daily cost per major activity.
iv. Summarised Curriculum Vitae clearly outlining the consultants’ qualifications and experience (Maximum 3 pages).
v. Contacts of 3 organizations that have recently contracted the consultant to carry out a similar assignment.
