An NGO based in Lusaka, Zambia is looking for suitably qualified candidate to fill the position of Programmes Manager.

The Programmes Manager will be required to perform the following duties:

  • Engage with Donor Agencies and Solicit for funds, locally and internationally.
  • Management of programmes staff and ensure alignment of their performance objectives to Strategic Plan.
  • Develop and review annual work plans for programmes unit, align work plan to the Strategic Plan and ensure accomplishment
  • Work with M & E Unit to develop M & E tools for project activities to measure programme impact.
  • Develop an annual budget and operating plan to support the programmes.
  • Develop funding proposals for the programmes to ensure the continuous delivery of services by the Donors.
  • Oversee the collection and maintenance of records on the clients of the programme for statistical purposes according to the confidentiality/privacy policy of the organisation.
  • Write reports on the programme for Management and Donors.
  • Communicate with Donors as outlined in funding agreements.
  • Ensure that the programme operates within the approved budget.
  • Monitor and approve all budgeted programme expenditures.
  • Monitor cash flow projections and report actual cash flow and variance to the CEO on a regular basis (monthly/bimonthly).
  • Manage all project funds according to established accounting policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that all financial records for the programme are up to date.
  • Ensure financial reports and supporting documentation for Donors are prepared as outlined in funding agreements.
  • Provide required information to have invoices generated and submitted to Donors according to the established timelines.
  • Monitor the programme activities on a regular basis and conduct an annual evaluation according to the programme evaluation framework.
  • Report evaluation findings to the CEO and recommend changes to enhance the programme, as appropriate.
  • Perform other tasks requested by the Chief Executive Officer.

Other requirements

  • Experience must not be less than 7 years in a similar role in a local or international organisation (working in an NGO environment would be an added advantage).
  • Age not more than 45.
  • First Degree in Developmental Studies or Equivalent (a masters will be an added advantage).
  • Successful candidates must be willing to work on a Volunteer Basis for the first few months until Funds start to come in.
  • Candidates must show drive, initiative and willingness to take responsibility.
  • Candidates must be self-starters and ambitious.
