Zambia National Commercial Bank Plc (Zanaco) is inviting applications from suitably qualified and experienced individuals for the following job aimed at contributing to the Bank’s strategic vision, in Operations Division under the Information Technology Department at Head Office:-

DATABASE ADMINISTRATION SPECIALIST (X1)

JOB PURPOSE

The Database administrator oversees all aspects of business database operations which include anything from initial database architecture design through implementation, administration, monitoring, tuning, backups, migration, and support.

Under the supervision of the Database Administration Senior Specialist, the following are among the Job Key Responsibilities:-

• Ensure that database servers are installed as per industry standards.
• Ensure that all database servers are properly configured, patched and tuned for optimal performance.
• Ensure that database maintenance is being undertaken correctly and at the scheduled time.
• Provide Optimal Database uptime on all Systems rating at 98%.
• Perform the capacity planning required to maintain the databases.
• Implement and enforce security of the databases.
• Ensure that the right management and monitoring tools are in place.
• Ensure that all passwords are being changed in line with the password policy.
• Attend to user queries and provide solutions timely and adequately.
• Ensure that the test and development environments are in proper working order and apportioned to users accordingly.
• Solaris Operating Environment Administration.
• Backup and recovery of databases (Acumen, ERP,FCUBS,AML).

• Any other tasks or responsibilities as maybe assigned by management.

INTERNAL/EXTERNAL CONTACT

• External: Stakeholders, Vendors.
• Internal: All Divisions.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• Grade 12 Credit or above mandatory in Mathematics and English and any other three subjects.
• Bachelor in Computer Science/Software Engineering or Electronics/Project Management or any other relevant subject.
• Thorough understanding of Oracle DB,ITIL, PL/SQL and/or Java skills and certifications.
• More than (3) years hands on experience with database technologies.
• At least three (3) year’s IT experience in Financial/Banking environments.
• OCP/OCA/MCDBA is an added advantage.
• Experience in Unix environments.
