Zambia Research and Education Network (ZAMREN) Currently Recruiting

ZAMREN is a National Research and Education Network (NREN), whose objective is to connect Research and Education Institutions in Zambia to the Regional Research and Education Network in Eastern and Southern Africa hereby extending ZAMREN to other National Research and Education Networks in Africa and to the rest of the World for the purpose of efficient and effective access, sharing and delivery of education and research resources. Has the following vacancy for suitably experienced and skilled personnel.

Job Title: Systems Administrator

  • This technical position reports to the Chief Technical Officer. He/She will Plan, carryout installations, maintenance and upgrades of operating Systems and Applications to ensure high quality of services to ZAMREN member institutions
  • Install and configure systems such as DNS, DHCP, Mail, File
  • Servers, Directories, FTP and Mirroring Services, Infrastructure Applications or Asset Management applications on both Unix and Non Unix environments
  • Perform and/or oversee software and applications stallations, upgrades and maintain system standards
  • Develop and maintain installation and operational configurations and other procedures
  • Perform regular security monitoring to identify and block
    any possible intrusions
  • Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery storage mediums are created, and media is recycled and sent off site as necessary to ensure business continuity
  • Create, change, and delete user accounts per request
  • Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities
    Configure / add new services as necessary
  • Perform regular performance tuning, file system integrity, software
    upgrades, and resource optimization as required
  • Maintain data center environmental and monitoring equipment


  • BEng/BSc in Computer Science, BSc IT or other closely related fields
  • MCSA, MCDBA, MCSE, SQL, LINUX or other related Certifications
    A valid Driver’s license
  • Five years practical experience as a Systems Administrator in a demanding in large corporation, ISP or Telco organization
  • With demonstrated proficiencies in the following
  • DevOps, Programming/Scripting (Bash, Python, PowerShell, Java, Ruby), virtualization technologies, and implementation of information security policies
