Power Plant Manager – Munyati Power Station
REF: ZPCH033/07/15
This is a senior position reporting to the Operations Director of the Zimbabwe Power Company. The key challenge in this position is the ability to ha mess the material, financial and human resources in order to produce reliable maximum electricity output levels. This will require the effective utilization of all the inputs, maintaining the plant and creating a work environment that will Jesuit in maximum manpower effectiveness.
Essential Competencies and Requirements
  • A degree in a relevant Engineering discipline
  • At least 8 years working experience in a heavy plant environment with a minimum of 2 years at Senior Management level.
  • Professional Membership of a recognized engineering institution
  • Core skills in budgeting and controls, resources utilization and the ability to plan ahead
  • Functional expertise in the process of electricity generation
  • Outstanding capacity to lead people, build and develop teams and deliver the expected results.
Key Performance Areas
  • Directs, plans and controls the Rower Station operations and objectives in line with corporate objectives
  • Establishes and promotes policies and plans for enhancing reliable energy delivery by the Power Station
  • Prepares guidelines for development of Operations and Maintenance philosophies
  • Compiles the capital expenditure budget for the Power Station
  • Develops guidelines for the adoption of appropriate quality management systems
  • Directs the development of new suppliers with favourable terms as well as providing guidelines for cost- effective procurement
  • Interacts with ZPC Head Office on the establishment of production targets for the station
  • Plans and implements power generation improvement projects
  • Develops systems for a sustainable, harmonious industrial relations climate at the station

General Manager Plant Revival (REF: ZPCHO 33/05/15)
The Position
This is a senior management position reporting to. the Technical and Projects Director, the main challenge in this job is overall management, implementation, control and completion of generation capacity enhancement projects.
Key Performance Areas
  • Defines capacity enhancement project scope, goals and deliverables and prepares proposals for new work
  • Leads in the planning and implementation of generation projects.
  • Supervises multiple jobs and multiple job teams including contractors.
  • Identifies potential risks of project to normal operations and develop plans and measures to minimize and mitigate potential risks.
  • Reviews, approves and consolidates monthly project status reports prepared by engineers, contractors and construction managers.
Essential Competencies
  • Ability to arrive at accurate conclusions and solutions by visualizing new potentials using rational and intuitive processes.
  • Ability to achieve expected results through the successful and timely completion of activities.
  • Ability to analyze the future impact of decisions by taking a big picture approach.
  • Ability to produce clear status reports, communicate tactfully and candidly.
  • Ability to identify, analyze and prioritize issues external to the project.
Qualifications And Experience
  • A degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or’ equivalent PLUS 10 years’ experience in power generation or heavy industry
  • Membership of a recognized professional institution.
